How-To Write: a series

Many of you that follow this blog have done so because of the resources and writing advice. My content of late has been all-over the map, but that has been more about building my portfolio than anything else. Apparently prospective employers want to see a variety of content. But I want to make it up to all you faithful followers with a new series on writing.

NEW how-to Series on Writing

My focus for this new series will be all about how to build story. There are many methods for building story but over the years, as I have gone through a graduate program (solely to become a better writer and hopefully to get a job) that focused on screenwriting, I learned so much about the working parts of story. Add that to what I learned on my own through writing six novels and adapting several of them into screenplays. I think I have learned a few tricks that will help any writer, at any level, become a better, more effective storyteller. Now, I am more of a panster-type writer than a planner, so I don’t have a series of steps planned, but I will be using the Save The Cat method of story-building and adding my own twists along the way.

I have is a plethora of experience and knowledge that can help you develop the tools needed to build character, setting, plot, and worlds. Also, I love helping fellow writers. Yes, we all sit alone at that keyboard, but we are never really alone. Aside from the fictional people living in our heads, the internet gives us all the ability to learn from the experiences of other writers and that is what I hope to do with this new series. Give writers the opportunity and resources to learn from me.

Day-One Stuff

Before the writing begins, there are a few things every writer needs: a quiet place to think and write, the will to write consistently, and a willingness to learn. If you have that, then you’ll be ready for the first lesson.
